Kelly Vasta

Nathan Soucie and Susan Kirkpatrick
"I am so jealous. This new facility is going to really set Aims apart.
This is going to fill a huge void in this community."
-Kelly Vasta, Aims graduate

Kelly Vasta has a job she loves, an education unprecedented in her family and more time to spen
d with her son. But she’s still jealous.

A 2006 graduate of the Surgical Technology program at Aims, Vasta is envious of those who will follow in her footsteps in the Allied Health programs at Aims who, beginning in fall of 2007, will have a cutting edge facility for a home.

“I am so jealous,” Vasta said. “This new facility is going to really set Aims apart. This is going to fill a huge void in this community.” She said that as healthcare facilities continue to grow in the region, it will be more difficult for Weld County to keep people. “They are going to be stealing medical professionals from a 50-mile radius. This area will suffer if we don’t keep producing more well-trained people to fill those voids.”

Vasta was the first person in her family to go to college. She turned to healthcare after foregoing a successful career as a meeting planner. She has truly enjoyed the change and loved the education she received from Aims. “The real-world experience of the instructors makes the difference,” she said. “They teach us what the instruments are called technically, but then they told us the 10 other things people actually call them on the job.”

And it must have had an impact. She was offered a position with a local surgery team before she even graduated.
